Materials presented on this site

Types of content featured

While this site has been inspired by the photographs of Noel Reid Cameron, it also contains a range of other material. The different types of content featured on this website, and where these were sourced, are outlined below.

Personal photographs

On his travels, Noel took a number of original photographs. These were, to the best of my knowledge, taken on a small Box Brownie camera and developed during the war. These photos tend to be of a lower resolution and have often faded. Many were annotated with personal comments pertaining to the exploration undertaken by Noel, which have been included as captains/descriptions where relevant.

Any picture without a specific annotation is one of the original photographs taken by Noel. The vast majority of pictures included on this site fall into this category. In addition, any original photographs taken by me are noted using the designation ‘BB’.

Purchased photographs

Noel also purchased a number of pre-developed photographs during his travels. These are often darker in colour, and are equivalent to a modern-day postcard.

Where a pre-developed photograph is included on this website, it has been noted in the image caption or description by the designation ‘PD’. In most instances, we cannot be certain of who holds the copyright for these images.

Other graphics and images

To be able to fill in the gaps where Noel did not take or purchase photographs, or to provide context to the history included on this site, I have also included photographs and images from other websites.

Where this is the case, we have referenced the original location and owner of the image, wherever known.

Related ephemera

Lastly, Noel left a range of different ephemera related to his travels during World War Two. These include, but aren’t limited to, maps, notations, and memorandum.

Where possible, these have been added to the website and are clearly designated.
